Can you please break down the difference between the two certifications?  I realize public vs private sector, but I see so much more SHRM than IPMA, even in the public sector I am wondering if the IPMA cert is really relevant.  If someone needed to choose between the two, I'm not sure which I would recommend.

    Your thoughts?

    Hi Aaron,

These are two common certs, along with the HRCI certifications (the original PHR, SPHR, and GPHR).  All of the certifications help you demonstrate your knowledge base of HR essentials and your desire for continued education and learning.  All require an initial test and proof of continued education, usually on a 3-year cycle.  You see much more of SHRM because they are a huge organization with over 300,000 members and a very large budget.  I think both SHRM and IPMA are excellent organizations to be affiliated with.
